cheryl’s cafe & market – spanish fort, AL

This was the first stop on our 3-year anniversary trip. We were heading to Santa Rosa Beach and originally had planned to at least get to Florida before we stopped for lunch. We should’ve known that wasn’t going to happen…

Cheryl’s is one of our favorite lunch spots on the Eastern Shore. Unfortunately it’s the favorite of a lot of people, and if you don’t get there early, you might not get a table. Also it’s only open on weekdays, so we can only go if we happen to be off work… and we were, so we took advantage of it.

I stole this picture from their Facebook page, but it is actually the menu from April 9, the day we were there, so… maybe our accuracy cancels out our plagiarism? The menu changes slightly from day to day, but this gives you a general idea… seafood, beef, pork, chicken, home-cooking, lots of choices for sides, that sort of thing. I can vouch for the Reuben if you’re there when that’s on the menu.

Anyway this time I got the meat loaf with marinara sauce. It was OK, but certainly not the best thing on the menu. Almost like spaghetti and meatballs without the noodles. Nikki got the pork chops. Didn’t get a picture of those. I apologize… Sometimes I’m not quick enough. Apparently they’re pretty good.

One thing we both strongly recommend is Cheryl’s crawfish bisque. It’s ridiculous and a must every time. Again, I apologize for the lack of a visual, but when the server sets it down in front of you, taking a picture is not the first thing on your mind.

I was thinking something new for dessert, but we ended up ordering the Dream Pie… again. Can’t say I regret it. So simple, but so good.

Give Cheryl’s a try if you’re in the Spanish Fort area. It’s a solid, locally owned option for lunch. They also cater, so keep that in mind if you’re planning a party, meeting, wedding, etc.
